Hardware Test Engineer

Automation & Motion Control, Capital & Process Equipment

Primary Functions:

  • Test, Troubleshoot, Debug, and Evaluate all product sub-systems and fully integrated systems within the R&D/ Product Development group.
  • Design and execute tests from Experimental proof-of-concept tests, to Functional testing, to product Design Verification Tests: Including testing for automation and robotic systems, electromechanical systems, environmental and process systems, and electronic power and controls systems.
  • Help hardware design engineers and systems engineers to define and document test plans for sub-systems and product level testing.  Develop and document test steps and procedures.
  • Implement and run tests including designing basic software control and data collection, implementing hardware set ups that include off-the-shelf and custom control systems and electronics, and data collections and logging.
  • Document, Plan, and Schedule all development hardware testing needs including coordinating with design and systems engineers, defining necessary equipment and facilities, coordinating and scheduling resources, and generating testing reports, evaluations, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Identify and work with outside testing facilities and vendors for various regulatory testing requirements.
  • Help to define and implement a basic Design Test Program including processes and documentation that will be used on a recurring basis for product development testing.
  • Help to define manufacturing level tests and test processes as part of product transition to manufacturing.
  • Clearly and concisely express and document ideas, issues, options, etc.
  • Generate meticulous, detailed, and thorough documentations. 
  • Work well within the team environment.

 

Qualifications:

  • A BSEE/BSME or equivalent combination of experience and education. 
  • 8+ years experience with testing hardware systems, automation systems, electronics systems, and capital/process equipment.
  • Completed a minimum of 3 product life cycles (from concept to production) testing hardware systems for products, equipment, and product sub-systems.
  • Strong multi-disciplinary experience. Solid experience in motion control electronics, automation, electromechanical systems, electrical power systems, basic software programming, and process control systems.
  • Experience with all types of testing equipment: PC systems, oscilloscopes, digital and analog I/O systems, data loggers, position measurement equipment, environmental sensors and monitors, wide variety of sensing and measuring equipment.
  • Experience with various software packages such as LabView and Visual Basic.
  • Strong documentation skills in developing plans, processes, schedules, and reports.
  • Strong data analysis skills in analyzing test results, debugging, and discovering root causes.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and good written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Must be able to work independently with a minimum supervision or direction.
